user boxes

You don't put it on your user page like that, you put it in a template under your userpage.

For example the user box you're currently trying to implement should be at User:User:CountDOODOO/Template:User_Heavy_laugh

The UIB tag isn't needed, as you're defining the actual user box, not a preview.

So, what you should have where is below:

In http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/User:CountDOODOO/Template:User_Heavy_laugh you should have:

{{Userbox
  |border-c = red
  |border-s = 1
  |id-c     = 1
  |id-s     = 14
  |id-fc    = blue
  |info-c   = orange
  |info-s   = 7
  |info-fc  = black
  |id       = [[Image:Heavyweaponsguy2.gif|40px]]
  |info = You're post is so small it is funny to me.
}}

On your user page, you should have (in addition to any other content you want there) simply a link to the template:

{{User:CountDOODOO/Template:User_Heavy_laugh}}

And then to make the user box public, you need to add the following to the page User info boxes:

{{Userbox_preview|UIB=User:CountDOODOO/Template:User_Heavy_laugh}}

Hope this helps. -- WanderingFox 00:38, 1 December 2007 (CST)

Quake Team Fortress Screenshots

Regarding the pictures comparing Quake Team Fortress and TF2, I have Quake TF. If you can, try to find somebody else that has it, tell me which Quake Source port they're using, and I can get some shots of the classes. --Hirohito 21:35, 24 February 2008 (CST)

Sorry, I don't know anyone who plays Quake TF. But if you can find those screenshots it'd be a great help.--CountDOODOO 13:38, 26 February 2008 (CST)
I think I might be able to set up bots in QWTF and get shots from there. I haven't worked with Quake bots in ages, especially for QWTF. --Hirohito 14:28, 26 February 2008 (CST)

Any response yet ?

Have you got any response from Valve about the legality of adding sounds, because im really getting impatient :P --The_Scorpion 14:11, 26 February 2008 (CST)

Same here. I e-mailed him and a few days ago and he said he sent it to his marketing and legal department. He said he'll get back to me once they're done. I imagine I should be getting a response sometime by this weekend or so. If not, I'll e-mail him again asking for an update.--CountDOODOO 14:44, 26 February 2008 (CST)
hehe, go Count, at least Valve will know who we are now or at least their legal dept. :) --Aurora 23:11, 26 February 2008 (CST)
We've got a little trouble here. I messaged Kerry asking for an update from their legal department and here's his message.
      Turns out I can't answer your other question, sorry. :)

I told him to ask his Legal Dept. and he said he did, so IDK why he said "I" and not "We". Maybe I'm just looking at it too closely. But either way, I don't know what to do. He said he didn't know. We could upload those sound files and I believe everything will be fine. It's your call guys (Mostly Nos' though). So guys, what are your opinions on this?--CountDOODOO 17:28, 29 February 2008 (CST)

Hydro developer commentary/to do

Just been doing some cleanup and came across Hydro developer commentary/to do as an orphaned article, does it need clearing now or a ToDo adding to the Talk:Hydro developer commentary page? --Aurora 21:48, 27 February 2008 (CST)

Yeah, Developer Commentary Hydro will need that ToDo list. The things we gotta do is upload a video of the nodes and put down any information that might be no longer valid.--CountDOODOO 22:16, 27 February 2008 (CST)
No worries, just wasn't sure which way it needed to go. --Aurora 09:28, 28 February 2008 (CST)

Deleting My Comments

You bad boy you... See http://tf2wiki.net/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Kay-oh&curid=3404&diff=20114&oldid=20112&rcid=19992 I'm sure it was an accident :) --Nos 15:50, 28 February 2008 (CST)

Ooops. Sorry about that. I saw that you posted (via Recent Changes) but when I looked on the article I didn't see your post. I thought you pulled a magic trick or something. lol. But anyways, I don't know how I deleted it. Just so I know, how do you stop that from happening? Any tips to look out for? As in "Don't do X thing when Y thing is happening". Thanks in advance.--CountDOODOO 16:27, 28 February 2008 (CST)
I don't really know what happened. The only thing I could think of was that perhaps my comment got hilighted in your browser window in the edit screen, so when you started typing, it typed over. Don't worry about it. --Nos 09:05, 29 February 2008 (CST)
Alright, then. I'll just try to be more careful next time.--CountDOODOO 09:10, 29 February 2008 (CST)
This happens when user1 goes to the edit page, starts typing, user2 opens the edit page as well, types and then saves (user2's update saved), and then user1 finishes his edit and saves. User1 doesn't have user2's comments included so they get wiped out. There's nothing you can do about this other than add the comment back in (it will be in the history) because MediaWiki doesn't have any kind of article edit locks. The only thing you can do to avoid this is give sufficient time to articles that are currently being worked on. It happens quite a bit to editors that look through the recent changes and pick the most recent articles which have been updated. I've kind of got used to this now because it happens to me so much, I tend to do the edit and once completed, copy the text to my clipboard then refresh the article again, go into edit, paste and save. It doesn't stop it but if I'm cleaning up recent articles I check the history after I've updated it to make sure no-ones done any changes I've overwritten. --Aurora 15:20, 29 February 2008 (CST)
Thanks for your help Aurora. I'll try it next time around.--CountDOODOO 17:19, 29 February 2008 (CST)

Escalated Privileges

You have been suggested as someone I should consider giving some escalated privileges to. Right now, if you look at Administrators you'll see the kind of permission we have. I'll remain the only "sysop" at least fo the time being. Are you interested? Please swing by my talk page and let me know either way in the Escalated Privilege Candidate Responses section. Thanks. --Nos 10:37, 4 March 2008

Image licensing

Hello fellow TF2 Wiki editors. If you read this message before, forget what I wrote. I've just completed all the license templates and while doing research I found the Mediawiki software has a built in license function so there's no need for you to bother typing all the gunk in. You can now select the license when uploading images (however it's not enforced). I've also been digging through legal documents and found that in the Canadian Copyright Act a 'fair dealing' policy exists (similar to the UK fair dealing policy, a bit like the US 'fair use' policy but not as flexible) which can probably be used for all screenshots from TF2 (although I'm no legal expert so should anything go to court - it wasn't me, nobody saw me do it).

Thanks, --Aurora 16:05, 10 March 2008 (CDT) [updated --Aurora 21:17, 10 March 2008 (CDT)]

Mailing List

Finally setup an admin mailing list... sign up here: http://mailman.tf2wiki.net/mailman/listinfo/wikiadmins/ Please put your Wiki user name in the name field somewhere. For example, I did "Andrew Kerr (Nos)". --Nos 19:08, 11 March 2008 (CST)

I added my e-mail to the list.--CountDOODOO 16:44, 14 March 2008 (CDT)

Main page - New pages

Please don't add stub articles to the New Pages section, articles need to be in a complete state and have been reviewed for wikification, linkage, styling ect. This is one of the reasons I only add certain articles to the new pages section, as well as doing it at the weekend after I've thoroughly read through and updated the new pages. Don't take this the wrong way, I'd like other editors to update the new pages section, but as it's the gateway for most readers it needs to be carefully updated. Once an article contents are in a decent state and have been cleaned up, by all means add them, but please not before. --Aurora 15:20, 14 March 2008 (CDT)

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me Aurora. I always thought by "New Articles" you just meant the latest articles that have been created.--CountDOODOO 16:44, 14 March 2008 (CDT)
No because there are hundreds of pages that are created that aren't valid for the front page, you can check out the Special:Newpages to see what I mean (language conversions, user pages etc). Anyway, like I said, I don't want you to take it as "thou shall not update the Main page", I just mean update it once the articles look good. --Aurora 17:28, 14 March 2008 (CDT)
