Flaregun Changes

Hi, I just want to point out that the flaregun now minicrits on burning enemies, and should be added to this page, as well as the individual Flaregun page.

Pyro dmg range?

The article says the pyro does 15 dmg with 1 ammo and fires 10 ammo per sec. So the DPS should be 150 +5 per second for the enemy actually burning from the flames. Am I right or did a miss something?--Sky 08:13, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

You can use the convar tf_debug_flamethrower to see how much damage the flamethrower does. According to my testing, it takes 16 seconds to empty a tank of 200 ammo, producing 360 particles of flame. Each particle does 4 damage at maximum distance, and 6.8 damage point-blank. Damage falloff is linear. 22.5 particles are fired each second. If all of them hit up close, the flamethrower does 153 damage per second, plus afterburn damage.
You can, in fact, do fractional amounts of damage. It takes 43 particles of 6.8 damage each to kill a 300-health heavy. These particles do 292.4 damage. It takes two seconds to fire this many flame particles, allowing the afterburn to add an extra 10 damage. If the damage was rounded up or down on impact, I'd need to hit the heavy with more or fewer particles.
I've also determined by counting 6.8 damage particles that crit flames do exactly 3 times as much damage as non-crit. Here are my numbers: 300 hp - 15 particles; 200 hp - 10 particles; 175 hp - 9 particles; 150 hp - 8 particles; 125 hp - 7 particles. This puts the top end damage of crit fire at 459 per second. • Bleh! Wilsonator - we keep overwriting each others changes on the Pyro! I wanted to make the layout similar for all the classes, I'll wait until your finished but I will probably move the 'Ignis Solus' video cover to the actual video page so there is a 300px wide image of the Pyro next to the Bio (same as the ones that have meet the...) -- Aurora 14:24, 26 November 2007 (CST)

  • Who decided he was Italian? He sounds more Asian to me, especially with the Ninja taunt and smaller stature, I think he's Japanese. Eddycurrents
Not sure, I'll change it to just read "Unknown", as currently it isn't. --Aurora 03:05, 28 December 2007 (CST)

Strats

Anyone want to merge the lengthy strats section here with pyro strategy? --Joffeloff 16:59, 28 December 2007 (CST)

Motto and Job

Since the Pyro was not included in Trailer 2, he has no official motto or tag (job). Should we take them out, list them as unknown, or leave in the community-contributed items? --Southpaw018 18:08, 19 February 2008 (CST)

Bio

Who changed the Bio of the Pyro? It used to be much better, I particularly liked the part about the purse in the locker. If anyone has the original info, in my opinion it should go back up there. --Anonymous 02:37, 27 February 2008 (MST)

EDIT: I just looked at the other classes and it seems whoever murdered the Pyro Bio also murdered the other ones.

I murdered it. We're looking for only true cannon material to put up in the bio, not fake things. Sure it was a good read but that's not a true statement about the Pyro. We really don't know where he comes from and what he likes. It has to be clearly shown in the game or in a Valve interview for it to be considered true. If the Pyro had an official bio then we would add it. At that time it was community generated and it's not true and thus it shouldn't be in this wiki.--CountDOODOO 05:23, 27 February 2008 (CST)
Actually, the purse thing is true. Check out any of the resupply rooms in 2Fort. -- Roloki 16:13, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Really? I always thought that was cannonical... Sorry about that.--Anonymous 06:40, 27 February 2008 (MST)
What is the description saying!? The Pyro can speak! It's just hard to talk through a gas mask. Duh!--double pizza

Unlockables

Well, I put up the template for the unlockables and filled in the info, but the template refuses to work. can someone please fix this? --Charles II 16:38, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand why it isn't working. I removed the errant Us and then tried to copy the normal weapons' code with the unlockable info, but it still failed. --[User:Wandrian Wvlf|Wandrian Wvlf]]

  • The template which includes unlockables should be used {{ClassUnloclables instead of {{Class
  • And the U was right.
  • Also the trailing "}}" for the template was in the wrong place

---TobyW360--- Okay its thursday where are the updates

Shotgun Taunt

Isn't it more of a reference to Dragon Ball? You can hear a muffled Kameha...meha!

Valve called it a hadouken in the official patch notes, so apparently not.--Wilsonator 23:17, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

This article desperately needs an update for the new features added. Something should be said about his new secondary ability, and maybe we should even have an article on reflected rocket kills and stuff. BobTheChainsaw 00:56, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Flare damages

Hi just wanted to add that I did some tests with 2 computers to see what impact damages the flare gun does. The results I got are as follows:

Shooting another pyro with FG resulted in (did about 100 shots) 13-27 damage. Pyros can't be lit on fire. Crits all seemed to do 60 damage.

Verses a heavy, damage was about the same. It seemed to do more damage when fire damage (50) is subtracted (result is roughly 15-33), but I'm going to assume fire works by doing 10 damage per second, if it burns for a little more than a second (due to lag) it will do a bit more damage. Crits are the same (60 damage impact).

So those are my results, I posted them in the table. If anyone finds official values or does a better study, feel free to update.Cannibalbob 20:58, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Pyro: Male or Female?

I pretty sure the Pyro is a male because its in the Instruction Booklet that comes with The Orange Box (Xbox 360) says "The Pyro is all about his flamethrower, making him a master of close-quarters combat." Which I'm pretty sure means he is male. I know about the purse thing though. I'm just assuming he is male because it says in the booklet that came with the game.

  • The Official TF2 Pyro card gives ambiguity to the case, so I wouldn't make that claim. With the purse in the locker, it can't really be said either way.

GutsMan 06:04, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Maybe the Pyro had a girlfriend who gave him her purse and put it in his locker. --Deathchon122 22:35, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

  • That could be possible, or another team member put it there as a joke. I only hope the Pyro is male, though; it would not be the first time that Valve has hinted at a conspiracy and it ended up true (as true as fiction can be). --Kohan 23:55, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

In the recent (false) Sniper update, after they reveal it is actually a spy update, they state that Pyro will be inconsoleable. However this was edited. It originally said, "when Pyro finds out, she'll be inconsoleable."

Although the line was in an update joking about TF2 conspiracy theorists. That doesn't mean it can't be true but you've fallen hook line and sinker if you take it as an official confirmation.--Wilsonator 14:18, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

The original Metroid manual said Samus was a man.--DStecks 4:24 19 May 2009

I see a total lack of boobs, but I think he's a Canadian Oakpack4 03:23, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

With the latest update, the pyro has a feminine stance when its team loses. ClusterShart 3:11, 18 August, 2009. (UTC)

I say he is a man. When you jump off anything tall, he makes the same grunt as any other member of the team. But who knows, the Pyro may be neither man nor woman. He just EXISTS. -NickP614

I think the pyro is a man. He has the voice of a man, he is voiced by a man, and that purse has this options:

-He is gay. -It is not in his part of the locker (true) -Or it is there just for fun. --Pyro 13:39, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Maybe Pyro is same kind of genderless and speechless creature like The Stig? --Suhov 22:45, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Pyro could be one of the Saxtonettes http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/File:Saxton_fire.jpg Los Spackos 02:08, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Personally I think it's the TF2 Team changing the gender to keep conspiracy theorists interested and amused. The only people that know for certain, would be the people behind the game itself. Perhaps it will be revealed if "Meet The Pyro" is the last "Meet the" video. For now though, I'd try to avoid mentioning the Pyro's gender altogether. It just causes confusion and even some pointless debating, which obviously leads nowhere. Infi^ 02:46, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

The Pyro is a female, in the new update on the main menu "Why don't you give her a go". WolF HounD 13.47, 12 June, 2010 (UTC)

Well, it actually alternates between 'him' and 'her'. No confirming Pyro's gender yet(to my knowledge), so please remove 'female' and 'she' from the article.(Unless I am wrong).Über Spycrab 12:45, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Meet the Pyro

Hold up, where did that picture of "Meet the Pyro" come from? It looks pretty legit to me. -Gentleman

Pyro = Related to the Arab World?

There is some speculation going on which hints that the Pyro might be related to the Arab world. The following arguments a brought up in the discusion: 1. The pyro yells "Jalalalala" after capturing a control point which comes from the Arabic word "Jalla" which means as much as "Faster". 2. The flamethrower look similiar to a fuel pump in it's design. It might be considered as a classic reference to the oil industry middle east. Also propane and butane which are used for flamethrowers are a by-product of this industry. 3. The flamethrower taunt is by some people considered as reference to the way which the Tusken race handle their weapons in Star Wars. The Tusken are actually inspired by Arab nomads (Beduins). 4. The Ambusher: This idea goes a bit deeper. Basically you just have to look at the way how Insurgents and Rebels are fighting in the Middle East. The primary way of fighting is the asymmetrical warfare, which also means ambushing enemy forces. Just like the Pyro. --TeemEhtRepins 21:25, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

...No. Cornbinks 20:06, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Definatly not. I think the pyro is either Mexican or spanish.

  • No one has considered if he's Asian D:. --Kohan 23:54, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
  • After a bit of research I found an old website saying that he was once a sociopathic chef but I forgot the website, sorry!--Mishulover69 19:49, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I remember hearing that on Uncyclopedia.Jspyster1 17:37, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

I think that Pyro is from that cool country Serbia

I don't know, i think that part of the pyro is to be able to imagine it as whatever race you want, like, because I am white I just tend to picture the pyro as white, or at least the voice. --tehplopo 7:01, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

trivia fail ?

The Pyro is the only class to receive a class update without also gaining a new taunt.

What about the spy ? --Dom 04:12, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Spycrab taunt for the Disguise Kit. -KazooieBanjo 22:00, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
That was asked 4 months ago, although I think the Crab taunt was added before the actual update. Smashman 22:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Pyro's Gender (Mac Update)

Ok, I just started TF2 and in the top right corner where it says your best time as some class "why don't you give him a shot" well, for the pyro, it says "why don't you give her a shot" is Valve settling the gender question once and for all, telling us Pyro's a woman? A Straight Answer From Valve!

Found this a couple days ago: Robin Walker Announces the Pyro To Be Male - --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Iron (talk).

That thread is hilarious, the amount of trollage and conspiracies is incredible. Personally, I could care less about the pyro's gender. -Firestorm2 15:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
