Use 'correct' map names?
Should we not be using the full map names in the wiki?
cp_dustbowl cp_granary cp_gravelpit cp_well ctf_2fort

- I think we should use both. Something like:
Dustbowl (cp_dustbowl) Granary (cp_granary) Gravel Pit (cp_gravelpit) etc.
- I dont know exactly how to do it... so feel free to modify it.

I added a {{{FILE_NAME}}} parameter to the Template:Map which is displayed in the infobox and of course references the filename used by servers. All official map pages should be able to be accessed via the map's filename. Thanks to Wilsonator for helping me add redirects and info to all the official maps. I haven't filled out the parameter for any custom maps.
Also its not a big deal but it might be good to go through the maps and copy content to the properly titles pages just to have things uniform if it won't mess any linking pages up. For example, copy the actual content from the the page Hydro into Tc_hydro and then make Hydro be the redirecting page rather than the main.
- I believe we the non-file names are the 'official' ones. Whenever Valve refer to map changes or the addition of new maps, they never name the maps with their prefixes attached (except maps such as badlands to clarify which map type). The file names are worth including for the purposes of server searching however. --Wilsonator 20:47, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, I think I understand, I wasn't sure on the best way to reference a map by the "official" name when it has multiple game types. Doing it by the filename seems easiest to me. I definitely agree with including the filenames in the map info, not to mention the 'Basic Info' section in the infobox looked a little lonely :) --Demono 18:30, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Looking toward the future
Perhaps we should set up a separate "User Generated Maps" page, as well, and category. I'm not suggesting that the map files be hosted here, but it could be a space for users to create entries for, and links to download, their favorite non-Valve maps. -Puddington 13:26, 4 October 2007 (CST)
- I'm not totally opposed to eventually hosting maps here... with the authors' permissions of course. Though then I would definitely need to move to a real hosting service somewhere. Not that I'm opposed to that, just a consideration. In any case, I'm going to upgrade the server this is currently residing on in November. [[User:Nos|Nos}} 15:01, 3 October 2007
- I approve. The implantation of a "User Generated Maps" pages is a good thing (and if it is possible, the hosting of these maps). pud, will you create the first "User Generated Maps" of the wiki? :D --Di4tribe 22:19, 4 October 2007 (CST)
- Ha, probably not. I'm slow as heck in Hammer. I'll get something up there, though, eventually. -Puddington 07:28, 5 October 2007 (CST)
Map Layouts
Our team is in cevo, and we were actually looking around for a site that has the map layouts - much like in CS, how there were 2d representations of dust2 and aztec that you could use to plan strategy.
Do you guys know of anything like that with TF2?
- No, but if you start work on something like that, this would be a great place to share it. Its a great idea. -- Nos 11 October 2007, 10:33 (CST)
Custom map/gameplay types
I went ahead and wrote up a bunch of different user-created map types. I'm sure it will need some layout work, fact checking and pics before getting it's own page or being integrated some how with the custom maps page. Johnmazz 14:11, 27 December 2007 (EST)
- has anyone else come across a combined map yet ? i played one at the weekend that had a control point on top of the supply building and intelligence underneath the control building either one lead to a score for the opposing team.--mark"d"davis 06:48, 22 January 2008 (CST)
- Nope, I tend to haunt the same servers that have mainly standard maps. I bet that would be a nightmare to defend though, what was it called? --Aurora 11:32, 22 January 2008 (CST)
- cant remember the name of it a choke point made it a bit of a stalemate --mark"d"davis 03:54, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Listing developer info on community maps that have been made official
I believe the individual pages for each community map that has gotten the official stamp should have info on who developed the map (maybe a column under the picture and map type?), as it stands now there is no (easy) way of telling that valve did not create these maps. Give credit where credit is due, some users might like to see some more maps by the same dev(s).
- Good idea. I'll make a seperate template for community maps with a 'developer' section. --Wilsonator 18:45, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
