Talk:Engineer
From TF2 Wiki
For the character bio
I've re-instated the short bio on the Engineer and corrected one section. I plan to look through the other classes which have "Meet the Team" videos as well.
I have seen the discussion elsewhere on TF2Wiki where a deletionist wanted to wipe all the bios, but instead came to a compromise where only canon information would remain (as written by Valve). If you guys are going to do that, you should actually look up the videos on Valve's own site before rifling through the bios!

With rumors that the Scout, Sniper, or Pyro will be getting videos soon, I think this becomes more important to follow. ThInTrM 22:31, 27 February 2008 (CST)
- That's a fair enough comment, however as you say, the decision was not to remove all the items in the Bios. Item's that do have sources should be kept; it was only the subjective item's that should have been removed. I'm not sure why the Info: sections were removed but thanks for putting them back. I believe the "deletionist" you refer to was myself, although I never said "wipe all the bios"; I only said remove the "insupportable and pointless details". We had a lengthy discussion about it on the Classes talk page if you want to check. I'd also like to point out that there are no 'you guys', the TF2 Wiki is a community based project and everyone is entitled to contribute or object to suggestions (or throw out new ideas for that matter). --Aurora 10:47, 28 February 2008 (CST)
- Umm yeah. That was me who deleted all the bios. Sorry about that. I thought it was just some random editor who made it off the top of his head. But thanks for putting the source to them. They were well written and I'm glad to see that they returned.--CountDOODOO 11:47, 28 February 2008 (CST)
- I'm readding the mottos. They are canon, and are from Trailer 2. --Southpaw018 22:50, 28 February 2008 (CST)
Build Times
I don't know how to do templates, but here is some data on the engineer I figured out: BUILD TIMES: Dispenser, teleport entrance and exit: 20 seconds Sentry: 10 seconds When someone uses a teleporter, recharge time until next person can use it: 10 seconds If you keep banging the wrench on the structures, they build exactly twice as fast, and no metal is consumed for doing it.

Here's some SG placement pics for Dustbowl...not quite sure how/where we can use them.

Advanced Strategy Section
Added an advanced strategy section. Feel free to move the information around/split it off into it's own page.
All of the information is written by me, and this is the second advanced section I've done so far (Soldier being the first).
Feel free to leave me a comment here, or on my talk page. --WanderingFox 10:28, 15 November 2007 (CST)
We shouldn't suggest that people demolish sapped buildings just to deny a spy a point. Not only is taking away a point that someone else earned an incredibly lame thing to do, but I've seen morons blow up their sapped guns as I was repairing it. It's bad teamwork. --Syd Midnight 14:52, 29 December 2007 (CST)
- Thats fair comment and I agree, it was added in on the last edit by Nanosheep at 05:02, 27 December 2007. --Aurora 18:27, 29 December 2007 (CST)
Not entirely. Teleporter entrances which are likely out of reach from any nearby engineers (since they're more focused on repairing the sentries and dispensers elsewhere) have a high likelihood of death when sapped. Obviously the demolition of more important structures such as the dispenser and sentry should be considered beforehand. This makes more sense when there is only one engineer on the team. --Nanosheep 07:45, 2 January 2008 (GMT)
Move the Advanced Strategy?
This article has an advanced strategy section in it, see open review on the soldier discussion pages
- I say move this one as well. In my opinion, each class article should just be a basic overview of that class. Having it go into too much depth may make it look unorganized. They should all be easy reads and if you want to know more about them, then they should click on an advanced strategy page. It's obvious that this Advanced Strategy page will get larger and larger as time goes on. More and more strategies will be found and I don't want to see this overview get too big. So, I say move it. --CountDOODOO 15:00, 29 November 2007 (CST)
- Moving to Engineer strategy. -- WanderingFox 09:43, 6 December 2007 (CST)
destroying sapped buildings
Has the ability to destroy sapped building been removed in a recent patch ?--mark"d"davis 04:14, 3 March 2008 (CST)
- Not as far as I've seen.--Raskolnikov 11:13, 22 April 2008 (CDT)
- It hasn't, but the Spy's damage towards the sapped building has been lowered.--DJTricky 12:41, 22 April 2008 (CDT)
Moving order of two engineer tactics
I got tired of not seeing engineers contribute and help others, so I moved two tactics up.--Raskolnikov 11:12, 22 April 2008 (CDT)
The Engineer Quote
You know how in most of the other class pages we have a little class quote with a link to the voice file? Well, I've been working on trying to get the same one for the Engineer quote, but it's just too long. Our wiki has a file upload max. limit set at 2MB. This thing is 2.7MB. So unless we get a new quote, we'll just have to leave it like that (without the direct link to the voice over). I've uploaded it to 4Share. You guys can download it THERE and edit it with whatever program if you want. I've tried trimming it but it's still too large. What should we do? Get a New quote or Can one of you trim it down expertly?--Eh_Leck_Trick 00:41, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sorted. We really didn't need that much. Smashman 01:02, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Metal
It's pretty vague about what you can use to get metal. While it's VAGUELY implied that ammo boxes and cabinets give metal, it's not stated anywhere. While anyone who has played engie for a fair amount of time believes this to be common knowledge, this should be reflected somewhere in the article. Tons of new engies have no idea where to get easy metal, until they ask (what usually happens) or accidentally find out.
Thanks in advance.

LaTeX used to generate "Favorite Equation"
LaTeX (what is almost certainly used for the paper the engie's favorite equation was taken from) makes very pretty equations, and some installations of mediawiki can use it. Maybe we should use that instead of an image (that is, a very small and hard to read image?)
This is the LaTeX code for his equation:
\sum_{i = 1}^L
\left[ c_i k_s max \left(
f_s \left( \hat{v} \cdot \hat{r_i} \right)^{k_{spec}},
f_r k_r \left( \hat{v} \cdot \hat{r_i} \right)^{k_{rim}}
\right) \right]
It seems this wiki has no LaTeX fomatting enabled (or available) so this is I guess here for reference.
- No, it's a mediawiki plug-in that's not installed on here. --

Speculation about Unlocks
"The Engineer update is assumed to be developed in 2010. This is presumably due to the only class to have no unique weapons (apart from his buildings) for Valve to work on. Perhaps this update will concern the buildings instead of his direct weaponry."
I've removed this from the Trivia section of the article because I don't believe speculation belongs on official articles. Also since it's 2010 now, the part about assuming it's going to happen in 2010 isn't necessary. If anyone thinks this removal was out of line, I will not undo an undo of my edit. -KazooieBanjo 19:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Engie created crafting?
Remember the crafting page on the WAR! Update, with the Engineer on the front page of the newspaper? So I was thinking. Who "created" crafting in the TF2 World? The Engineer or Saxton Hale? OluapPlayer 19:45, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
