General Differences

  • Melee weapons have different animations (Ex. instead of constantly swinging the fire axe over his head, the pyro will also swing it to the side) on the PC version.
  • The PC version is patched more frequently, due to higher interest and the difficulty Valve has had when patching the home versions, especially the Xbox 360, and Electronic Arts's reportedly poor support of the PS3 version. This has resulted in a much higher rate of unpatched issues in the home console versions, including standing land and physical glitches that allow unscrupulous players to ruin a match.
  • The Xbox 360 version has a lobby system where a host can set up a room, change the options (maps, time limit, and round number), and boot other players from there. People in the lobby can invite other players (if there's open slots), choose their teams, and talk to everyone. The PC version doesn't have a lobby system. Games in the PC can last until the host shuts down the room.
  • The PC version allows players to create custom maps and play them online. The home console versions do not have a map creator. They only have the official Valve maps.
  • When you die on the PC version, you can see the players gamer-picture in the textbox that appears when you get killed by a player. The home console versions do not have the ability to display Gamertag pictures, only their username.
  • The home console versions can have a maximum of 16 players, while the PC can have 24 or, with an unofficial but VAC approved configuration change, 32.
  • Sprays are not available in the home console versions.
  • The home console Versions do not contain Bots.
  • Several quick commands such as the ability of the Spy to assume his last used disguise and the key to drop the Intelligence are unavailable in the home console versions due to less buttons and keys.
  • Home console versions have a different menu screen. They features a picture of Dustbowl Stage 3 Cap 2, like the PC version did in the pre-order beta.
  • The home console versions do not play music on the main menu screen. The only background sound is birds chirping and a beeping noise.
  • Some of the more detailed video settings available on the PC version are not available on the home console versions.
  • Party mode is not available in the home console versions.
  • You cannot take screen shots in the home console versions, except manually (i.e with direct capture software or a camera.)
  • Home console versions do not have a prefix in front of the map names. (ie: CTF_2Fort would instead be called 2Fort on the Console Versions.)
  • The PC version has more responses such as "Match win" and "Assist" responses.
  • The home console versions use a bar meter to show sensitivity on the X and Y axis. The PC version uses a slider and number counter.
  • The PC version can set a higher maximum sensitivity than the home console versions.
  • The home console versions do not have the alltalk option like the PC version. On the home console versions, players can only talk to their own team over voice chat.
  • The home console versions can separate voice from game music and sound effects, with voice going through the headset and music and sound going through the television or home audio. This separation cannot be done in the PC version.
  • The PC and PS3 version uses a "push-to-talk" system, whereby one presses and holds a key in order to use voice communication. The Xbox 360 version allows talk at any point in a game without input.
  • The PC and Xbox 360 versions were developed natively by Valve. The PS version is a port by Electronic Arts.
  • Valve supports the PC version with new achievements and unlockables (eg. Medic update, Pyro update). The 360/PS3 has not recieved these updates.

Gameplay Differences

  • The home console versions have no voice commands except for "Medic!" and other Taunts. Some voice commands have become responses.
